I am writing a continuation of my Chicago story. In Chicago, I went to another restaurant owned by an Irishman. This restaurant also serves lobster (like lobsters, but lobsters don’t have shears). However, lobsters do not have scissors, while lobsters have big scissors like crayfish. The size of the scissors is about two thirds of the whole body. Like an aquarium, a glass case is filled with salt water, which is the lobster’s fish tank. The taste is not as good as the lobster I had at Grotto (an Italian restaurant) in San Francisco, and I thought maybe the brains would be good because lobsters have big heads. I tried it, but it was not good at all, and the meat was too firm and tasteless. In New York, the first house that the local people showed us was an Irish restaurant. This is a cafeteria-style restaurant, where meat and salad are prepared in advance, and customers can go to the display and take whatever they like. This lacked the freshness that is the lifeblood of the food, and it even looked unclean, so I had no interest in eating there. So I specifically ordered a beef steak and had it grilled, but Japanese beef is much better. However, the way it was grilled was rather good. To my surprise, the beefsteak was three times the size of a Japanese beefsteak and cost me $13.50 for two people.

Generally speaking, American beef and pork meat is not very good. The meat from the flank of a lamb was barely acceptable, and the milk and eggs were not good. My first impression of New York is that Americans have a big appetite, and their way of eating is very clerical. For example, in Manhattan, a corner of a block in the city is always occupied by an apothecary. As you know, the pharmacy sells not only medicines but also postage stamps, daily necessities, soda water, ice cream, etc., and also offers light meals. In many cases, the left side of the store is a stand-up diner. Most of the time, customers order a hamburger steak, cake, orange juice, and something like that, eat in a flash, and then quickly disappear back into the hustle and bustle. It does not cost more than two dollars to fill up here. For breakfast, a ten-cent piece of toast, a thirty-cent ham and eggs, and a twenty-cent cup of coffee should be enough. Marquis, an Italian restaurant in New York City. The drinks and sausages here were delicious. This deserves a big mention. I will never forget the fried fish called ling (a kind of cod). I was impressed by the meat’s tenderness, and wondered how such a delicious fish could be found in a foreign country. The size of this fish was about 1.5 to 2 feet.

Speaking of fish, the sea bass sashimi that I was served at the official residence of UN Ambassador Renzo Sawada was one of the most delicious and rare in Japan. The restaurant is called Miyako, a well-known Japanese restaurant here. The restaurant is a Japanese restaurant called Miyako. Sukiyaki was served, and I was surprised to see that everything was boiled together as if it were a Sumo wrestler’s pot. I asked the owner, who was born in Niigata and had never been to Tokyo or Kyoto, if he knew what sukiyaki was. I showed him a model of sukiyaki for reference, and he rolled his eyes. He rolled his eyes. Phew! I will leave for London on May 2nd.
